Utah Roadtrip 2015 – Days 1-6

It is said that life is full of adventures, and through those adventures we learn a lot of new things that we rarely can get them unless we travel to and experience it.

At the beginning of 2015 (Jan 3nd,2015), we got a chance to travel to Washington DC – thanks to the Aeroplan points, and this is also the first time that we experience road trip although it wasn’t really a lot (from Washington DC-Baltimore-Delaware-Richmond, VA).

And this time, we went to to Utah because Thong had to attend a conference there. We want to take advantage of the time, so we took a road trip to Yellowstone National Park. Speaking of this trip, once again, we experienced new things:

DAY 1&2

1. Transiting between two flights. OMG, it was a nightmare to us. We flew from Toronto to California, and had less than half an hour to go from one terminal to another, and through security with 2 heavy carry-ons. We ran as quickly as if we were being chased by a ghost, and as soon as we got to the plane, they closed the gate and the plane was took off immediately. Phewww.

We arrived at Salt Lake City Airport and realized that our checked luggages were still stuck in California. Hix. We had to wait till night to be able to get our luggages back. The next morning went to Idaho and enjoyed the fascinating views on the road. Along the ways were many RVs from a lot of different places and of course we saw a lot of RVs parks.

2. Camping: This is also the first time that we went camping. I wasn’t really interested in it before because I thought that it will be very dangerous to sleep outside. But unlike what what I thought, camping was very enjoyable! We camped at KOA, and to be honest, this place was amazing, to all the people who are like me (don’t like camping), come and visit this place and you will think twice about not trying out camping. This place has a lot of amenities such as clean washrooms, showers, a laundromat, and a store where you can buy a lot of things: firewood, drinks, food, souvenirs…

Thanks to this trip, Thong now has more experience in chopping woods, outdoor cooking, setting tents, and washing clothes. I really recommend those who haven’t gone camping before to go outside and give it a try.

DAY 3:

The next morning we wanted to explore Yellowstone National Park, but unfortunately the weather wasn’t really nice because it rained all day. However, it didn’t mean that we couldn’t still have fun time.

We bought the National Parks Pass and we were able to enter the many national parks without paying any more. On the way into the park we saw beautiful mountains and forests and of course wild animals. Our first stop was Artists Paintpots. We were overwhelmed by the smell of the sulfur rotten eggs, and  the awesome mud pots. It kept raining and raining, and the next stops were: the Grand Canyons of Yellowstone, Artist points (Lower Falls). We didn’t visit Old Faithful that we wanted to visit because there was an accident on the way there.

Leaving Yellowstone, we went straight to the KOA campground, passing through the Grand Teton National Park.

We arrived at Jackson Hole late evening and we checked in at KOA. This time we lived in a cabin. This is different from camping. It is just a small room with bed, and you have to prepare everything for your sleeping like pillows, and bed sheet. It saved our time when we lived in this cabin because we didn’t have to set up our tent, but it was kind of boring because we felt like we were living in a box. There was one thing that I love about this cabin is the swing in front of the cabin. 🙂

Since we didn’t have bed sheet, we used our sleeping bags instead 🙂

DAY 4, 5 & 6

We almost forgot about our main purpose for this trip: Thong’s conference. The next morning, we went back to Salt Lake City and got ready for the conference. I happened smoothly and we had nothing more to worry about but got excited for the next destinations.
